Nov 15, 2023: 2nd Annual Good Food Gathering
Are you a farmer, food processor, restaurant, institution, policy-maker or other food system player in the Squamish to Lillooet Region? This event is for you! Limited seating and registration is required.
The second annual Good Food Gathering is bringing diverse food players from across the Squamish to Lillooet Region together for an intimate and energizing conversation over food and drink at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre.
After last year's Good Food Gathering, we learned how powerful it is to get local food system players in the same room. By gathering at the same table, we can forge new relationships, learn about our regional food system, and together imagine a vision for the future of food and agriculture in our communities. Relationship-building is a key component of strengthening our local food system. Attendees can expect to leave with new local business contacts, knowing more about our local farms and restaurants, and being informed and inspired about our region's food economy.
Restaurant owners and chefs, retailers, hoteliers, non-profits, institutions, and other food buyers can strategically leverage their purchasing power to generate greater health and wealth in our communities. How and where procurement dollars are spent has important economic, employment, social, and environmental impacts. This event is a win-win for all involved in the agriculture, food processing, institutional and tourism sectors as we understand our roles in shaping the future of our regional food system.
Here's what to expect:
9:30 AM: Welcome and Introductions
10 - 10:30 AM: Squamish to Lillooet Food & Farm Hub Update: Learn about the District of Squamish & Squamish Food Policy Council's Food & Farm Hub Feasibility Plan and offer feedback on a potential food hub in our region
10:30 AM - 12 PM: Meet Your Maker: Meet local food growers and buyers in a fun and engaging networking session (kind of like speed dating) *Come prepared with business cards and information for possible new buyer-seller relationships
12 - 1 PM: Enjoy a lunch prepared by the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre highlighting seasonal and locally grown food
1:15 - 3 PM: Social Network Mapping: Join Kim Slater from the Whistler Centre of Sustainability for an engaging workshop that will kick off a new living platform that highlights our foodshed's existing connections
